During the annual salmon run throughout the autumn months, determined salmon migrate from ocean to river and face the challenge of a lifetime to get back to their natal spawning ground. Those that don't make it or after spawning, salmon carcasses deteriorate and transfer nutrients from the ocean environment to the forest environment. Predators such as eagles, bears, and wolves spread nutrients from salmon through their feces all over the forest. These nutrients help trees and plants thrive.
